Contributing Artist: Alice Keene
Alice Keene, Southwest Photographer
As a northwest native of Washington State, Alice Keene grew up in the shadows of Mt. Ranier, the rain forest, and Hood Canal-an artist’s dreamland of misty mornings, rising fogs, and spectacular vistas.
She spent her childhood summers with her maternal grandmother on a rural farm helping her to create her flower gardens of rainbow colors. They experimented with textures, with placement, with moods and light, and with mixing fragrances. Alice’s Brownie camera captured these marvelous living art gardens and her love of photography began.
She is mostly self-taught and her works have been placed in the Hood Canal area.
Recently moving to the southwest, she has again experienced a delightful sensory overload and is expressing this in her surreal photographic work. The color crayon blue Arizona skies make a perfect backdrop for her photography, which catches the southwest essence like a swirling folkloria dancer.
